Former US treasury secretary the Harvard professor is leaving the governing body at the artificial intelligence firm, just a week after a batch of digital correspondence between him and deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein became widely known.

Summers commented in a statement that he was "thankful for the chance to have contributed, enthusiastic about the prospects of the company, and look forward following their advancement".

The former Harvard president, who formerly headed the prestigious university, announced on Monday that he would be stepping back from public responsibilities due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein.
