Ghislaine Maxwell reportedly has access to unusual benefits within her minimum-security prison facility, such as custom meals, unlimited bathroom tissue, and even access to a puppy, according to new whistleblower reports.
An early November letter by Democratic Congressman a lawmaker addressed to the ex-president referenced whistleblower disclosures that outlined several supposed privileges given to the inmate.
These involve tailored food, an exclusive visitation room equipped with food and drinks, and allegedly unlimited toilet paper.
Additionally, one staff member was said to have remarked about being forced to serve as her assistant.
One particularly notable report involves a young dog.
A prisoner who trains service dogs was directed to give Maxwell access to a puppy for play, even though such contact is normally not allowed to both inmates and staff.
Multiple attorneys commented, saying that such alleged handling is highly atypical.
âThe government isnât going to give a convict such privileges in exchange for nothing,â said one ex-attorney.
Another legal specialist remarked that prisoners convicted of sex crimes are often separated from the general population because of safety risks.
âIt is striking that she is reportedly receiving such special meals, private meetings, canine interaction â this is not standard,â the expert said.
Some proposed that these alleged benefits might be a trade-off in return for her cooperation.
This might mean sheâs âkeeping her mouth shutâ about influential individuals and giving useful information to authorities.
However, some remained skeptical about the allegations.
One former inmate suggested that some so-called âspecialâ food could just be prisoners making meals on their own with items from the kitchen.
He also stated that private meeting spaces are sometimes arranged for high-profile prisoners due to safety concerns.
These allegations have also sparked speculation that Maxwell could be seeking a commutation of her 20-year sentence.
Her legal team have however rejected the claim she's applying for a pardon, saying rather that she plans to submit a legal challenge to her conviction.
The Bureau of Prisons issued a statement stating that claims regarding improper conduct are thoroughly investigated and stressing that preferential treatment is strictly prohibited.
Presidential officials earlier stated that pardoning Maxwell is not a matter being discussed.
While these allegations continues to unfold, legal experts and the public remain closely watching for any developments regarding her treatment and possible pardon moves.
